Volunteer To Help

  Volunteer Opportunities:

Dog Socializing and Exercise
This involves participating in the Head Start program for shelter dogs, which teaches basic training and manners, along with exercise and socialization.  This program enables our dogs to remain comfortable with human interaction, therefore increasing their adoptablity.  No prior dog training experience needed!  Certain physical requirements are necessary.

Cat Socializing and Exercise
This involves socializing, grooming, and playing with the cats and kittens in their designated areas.  Certain physical requirements are necessary.

Grooming
This volunteer opportunity is very important!  Our dogs need to look their best to find the very best homes.  Therefore, they need a "doggie makeover."  That's where our volunteers come in!  No prior experience needed, you will be trained to bathe and possibly clip our canine residents.

Office Support
Volunteers are needed to perform a variety of office tasks.  This would include helping in the front office as a "public liason" which involves answering the telephone, greeting the public, and directing them to the appropriate resource.  We need pleasant, understanding volunteers who can convey our mission and help visitors have a positive experience during their visit to the shelter.  Assistance is also needed in the back office involving accounting related work such as filing and record keeping.

Foster Care Program - for animals with special needs

What does it mean to be a foster parent?

Volunteers are needed to hand raise kittens and puppies that are too young to be cared for at the shelter.  This requires a great deal of personal time and commitment but is well worth the effort!  For more information on fostering click here.

Sometimes the Adoption Center has little ones who are so young that they need extra special personal care in a home atmosphere.  On occasion, we have an injured adult dog or cat that requires extra TLC.  Foster parenting offers the animal a home environment where they will experience the love and care to prepare them for a happy & healthy future.

This is where you can help as a foster parent. If you can provide a temporary home for one of these animals, you will literally be saving their lives by buying them time and giving them a second chance at life. You will receive training and all the supplies needed to care for these animals from the shelter. All you need to do is spend time socializing, caring for and loving the animal until it is ready to go to a permanent home. It takes a very dedicated and unselfish person to put the time and effort into fostering, only to give the animal up to someone else, but these animals would have no chance at all without foster parents!

Special Events and Fundraising
Some of the special events include the Walk With The Animals, Comedy Night, Golf Tournament and Dog Agility show, Holiday Pet Portraits and Open House, and fundraising mailings.  Volunteers are needed to organize and staff the events as well as support activities to complete mailings and invitations.
